    Mrs Chester's lost child: inconsolable psychological injury and Evatt J's finest judgement

    In this lecture chaired by the Hon Justice Peter Applegarth AM, author Gideon Haigh will speak about Evatt and the judge’s empathy for Mrs Chester’s suffering. Associate Professor Kylie Burns of Griffith Law School will follow Gideon Haigh's talk by commenting on the contemporary relevance of Chester’s case to how inconsolable psychological trauma is currently dealt with by our legal system.

    The venue will be the Banco Court, Supreme Court of Queensland, Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law building, 415 George St, Brisbane, with a Zoom live-stream.  To be held on Wednesday  14 July 2021 at 5:30 PM.

    Class Actions Forum: Capital, Regulation and the Public Interest

    The Australian Academy of Law in conjunction with the Law Council of Australia is pleased to announce it will be hosting the Class Actions Forum to be held in the Federal Court in Sydney on the topic of Class Actions: Capital, Regulation and the Public Interest.

    The event will be held in person and also streamed online

    Sydney Roundtable - Insolvency System

    4 August 2021

    This event is hosted jointly by the Australian Academy of Law and the Ross Parsons Centre, University of Sydney.

    (AAL Fellows and invited persons only)

    The working title: "The roles of the state and the private profession in the insolvency system: do we have the right balance?"

    Mr Michael Murray and Professor Jason Harris will present a paper. The presenters are the joint authors of Keay’s Insolvency: Personal and Corporate Law and Practice (11th ed pending).

    The venue is the Federal Court Level 20  conference room, Queens Square, Sydney for a 5.00pm start.
